Dani Filth dishes on how he got into horror and how he actually made Tony …
After giving it an unforgettable and wild debut at UNIFY ’18, Sydney dramacore pioneers Hellions have dropped what might just be their most upbeat slice of shred yet. Listen below:
If the decidedly un-punk title of X (Mwah) didn’t give it away, the new single marks a noted departure from Hellions’ usual vicious, unremitting mosh fuel and a step closer to the enigmatic pop-rock the blokes hinted at with their 2016 breakthrough single, Thresher.
“This is very much an escapist anthem,” says guitarist and vocalist Matt Gravolin. “We’re embracing abandon and recklessness.”
Diving a little deeper, Gravolin explains the track’s concept: “60 percent of the human body consists of water. We are made of stardust atoms. These are remarkable things to contemplate – our very being is miraculous! But considering how few of our actions bear the salubrity of the water we’re composed of and how little light we’re projecting unto the world each day is enough to make one believe we are more of an aberrational race than a miraculous one.”
Released alongside a downright massive video clip, the cut comes as our first taste of Hellions’ as-yet-untitled fourth album, which, in case you didn’t catch them drop the bombshell in person at UNIFY, is already finished and awaiting release. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed Opera Oblivia, LP4 is set to drop via UNFD before the mid-year rolls around.
To kick their new era off on a high note, the band will take their grandiose blast of colour and chaos to the stage for a very special one-off gig at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel. If a tease-heavy press release is to be believed, the intimate showcase will see Hellions wielding some unique surprises for their hometown fans…
